Presentation of N-SA

Nieuw-Solidaristisch Alternatief (N-SA) hold its first congress on 11 October 2008, promoting the "solidarist" doctrine as an alternative to liberalism and marxism. The leader of the party, Edouard Hermy, has a long political history linked to the Flemish extreme-rightist movements; in 1999, he was expelled from the ultra-nationalist party Vlaams Blok (VB) after having distributed racist tracts against the refugees' center of Ostend. Several members of VB (today, Vlaams Belang), including Jan de Beule, Municipal Councillor of Hamme, have "left" VB, deemed "not radical enough", to join N-SA.

N-SA is clearly an ultra-rightist movement founded on the model of the German NPD, aiming at grouping the various Flemish ultra-rightist movements currently not represented in the Parliament. Not happy with this new movement that may attract some of their own supporters in the next regional and European elections, te leaders of the VB have not forbidden their members to join N-SA but have advized them no to do it.

Flag of N-SA

The symbols of N-SA are the black rat (an old symbol of "revolutionary nationalism"), the Flemish lion (of course without red elements), the Celtic cross (as a symbol of "conservative revolutionary nationalism"), and the trident, which appears on the emblem and flag of the N-SA.
The flag of N-SA, as sold on the party website and used in different events (see below), is divided black-green by an ascending diagonal and charged with a white trident. It is modelled on the emblem of N-SA, a triangle pointing downwards vertically divided black-green and charged with the white trident.

The triangle is an old symbol of the Flemish national movement, already used by the nationalist party Vlaams-Nationaal Verbond (VNV), and symbolyzing the delta formed by the three "Dutch" rivers Scheldt, Maas and Rhine and the close relations between Flanders and the Netherlands.
Black represents frugality, discipline and Flanders as the land of Flemish people.
White represents the purity of the solidarist society.
Green is the colour of solidarism, an ideology already developed by "Verbond van Dietsche Nationaal Solidaristen" (VERDINASO, Union of Diets National Solidarits), an anti-parliamentary movement founded by Joris van Severen in the 1930s. Green also represents growth, hope and the enthusiasm of the youth. Green has here nothing to do with political ecology.
The trident represents the "third way" of new solidarism, beyond left and right. The trident shall repell liberalism, communism, atlantism, worldwide islamism and mark the golden, median way of truth, identity and solidarity.

The flag of N-SA predates the founding congress. It was already used during a street demonstration held on 21 October 2007. It was subsequently used during the Jornadas de la Disidencia III, organized on 7-9 November 2008 in Madrid by the Spanish Movimiento Social Republicano (MSR), where N-SA shared a stand with the German NPD.
The flag was used again during a night demonstration on 17 December 2008. During this event was also used a yellow flag with a black lion's head and the writing Jongerenaktief. Jongeren Aktief is the biggest youth section of VB, led by Jan de Beule, that joined N-SA together with their leader.

Leaflets of the party show drawings of the flag as plain black with the white trident but there is no evidence of such a flag in the cloth.

Groen Rechts

Groen Rechts (in Dutch, Green Right) is an Ecologist ultra-rightist organization. Although its website has almost no content, the logo of N-SA appears at the bottom of the pages, which suggests whose members must have founded it. The flag of the organization, with a black Celtic cross on a green field, is also shown there; the colours used also suggest ties between two organizations.

The flag can be seen on numerous photos shown by Blokbuster, together with numerous Flemish flags, several black flags with white Celtic cross, a Princevlag and several black-red Anarchist flags, whose use shows a growing tendency of ultra-rightist use of Anarchist symbols.
